BRISBANE AIRPORT’S NEW BEER TAP HANDLES.
THE PROBLEM
Airport Retail Enterprises wanted a statement piece for their upcoming new venue at Brisbane Domestic Airport. They needed a sustainable and stylish twist on the traditional beer tap handle.
THE SOLUTION
We designed and manufactured uniquely shaped beer tap handles made from 100% post-consumer Australian plastic. Comprised of plastic waste, these beer tap handles are designed with the circular economy in mind, being easy to disassemble and re-recycle at the end of their long life. The handles fit standard beer taps and can be removed for easy cleaning.
HOW WE HELPED
1. DESIGN
Both the chic design and recycled materials of these handles were important for the success of this project. The design suits any standard beer taps and the handles are removable, so staff can thoroughly clean the taps and handles as needed.
Our design services included:
Ideation sketching
Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
Design for Manufacture (DfM)
Design for end of life (disassembly and recycling)
2. MANUFACTURE
Working with our network of suppliers and manufacturers, we were able to colour-match the materials to suit the venue. The material is made-to-order in Sydney from recycled HDPE plastic, then CNC machined locally in Brisbane/Meanjin. Finally, we assembled the pieces and completed wet sanding and polishing in our Brisbane workshop.
